Last night Jackie and I went to see Shakespeare in the Park. It's Louisville's 45th year of having free Shakespeare performances in little Central Park in Old Louisville. I was a little worried that it would end up being unpleasantly hot and humid, but it was the perfect early summer evening. She is the most incredible hostess. She packed a picnic dinner substantial for about ten people in case anyone ended up joining us (we had planned on it being quite a few of us going, but no one else came). She made chicken for her carnivorous self, an experimental potato and pasta salad which turned out to be quite good, and lots of fresh fruit and cheese and crackers.

I got more enjoyment from just laying on the blanket in the park, taking notice of the park and it's people than the play itself. The play was Macbeth. Hmm. The set was cool, and the music was super. The acting was not too hot. It sounded like they were trying to sound like you think Shakespeare is supposed to sound, not how they wanted it to sound. Very over emotional and emphasis falling on certain words as to enhance the pure drama rather than to convey any sense of meaning of charachter. So like I was saying, I mostly observed the park and the people. Very cool. I like it when you look at something familiar to you as if you were an outsider, and suddenly the little park looked as new to me as Central Park in NYC did last year. The children in the audience started running after the lightning bugs, and couples started leaning on each other and the twilight was beautiful through the cover of trees and the bats were swooping. For someone who doesn't realllly like being outside that much, I've been enjoying it an awful lot lately.

Now I'm at work waiting for something to do. The new system software is here and in place and we need to be practicing on it and we hvae the huge task of moving all of the data from the old system into the new one, but the managers are still working on getting us to the point where we can do that, so although we're a month behind in processing, I have nothing to do for the moment. I can't wait till we can sink our teeth in the new system and get cracking. Not only will it make the day go much faster, but we'll get good at the new system and be ready for the season when it starts. Well, until then... crossword puzzles to pass the time.
