the electric is finally back on in my building. although the air isn't on yet, at least the elevator is turned on and the lights in my bedroom are on. i feel much joy that i can now step out of the sticky, stagnant post-storm world.

i worked the day shift today. it was really nice, actually. i woke up early around 8:30 (for me) and took a shower after lounging about for a bit. work was slow, but made for lots of catch-up time. i walked over to the fourth street live to check it out on my lunch break. i didn't eat lunch there though, and i'm glad i didn't try because the restaurants that are open already had huge waits. it was neat to see the changes and all- i wish borders was open though. it'll be nice to have a decent bookstore within walking distance from work. the weather was so beautiful, it wasn't hot or humid. it was warm, but not remotely unpleasantly so.

i gave my supervisor a ride home from work, and she invited me in for rum and tonics with fresh lime. we sat on the backporch and watched her dogs run through the yard and enjoyed the nice weather. her house always makes me feel like i'm in the south, and her yard is absolutely gorgeous. her man got home after a bit and joined us. it was a delightful early evening.

and...

she gave me part of an asparagus fern that has an amazing history. in the early seventies, she lived in new york for a year, and she bought a tiny little fern at a local market. she named it gus. when she left new york, she didn't want to travel with it, so she gave it to a friend of hers. that friend later moved to kentucky, and she did bring the fern with her. so the original gus (o.g.!) provided the seeds from which her fern grew. so this plant i have has been, in one sense or another, in her life for almost/over thirty years. i was really flattered she gave it to me. i also met the little boycat that her man found diseased, flea-ridden and rail thin over a month ago. max is his name, and they have taken such good care of him- he's clean, gaining weight, and a sweetie little lovercat who was in the right place at the right time.
