unless you've been living under a rock.......you know the economy is in the shitter

So it looks like we may be moving soon.
We want out of our house.
Our mortgage is killing us. We can't afford to save up for anything.
Originally this was just going to be a starter house. Fix up a few things and then move on.
We haven't done shit to this house and now it's too crowded for the 4 of us.
We're having a market analysis done Wednesday afternoon. After that we'll be talking to our mortgage people to see what's up.
I'm not sure they're going to be willing to work with us being as how we're up to date on payments.
Clearly we can afford the payments.
It's everything else we can't afford.
We can't afford to save up for a 2nd car, or for Jack to go to preschool, or for any home improvements.

If we put the house on the market, no one in their right mind would pay what we'd have to ask for.
There are a lot bigger, nicer houses around here that are marked  for a lot less than what we owe.
They've been on the market a very long time.

So if it comes down to it, we'll do a short sale.
Who knows, maybe we'll foreclose.
Either way we're looking at renting someplace for the next few years.
I'm more than happy to do that if it means we have enough space for all of us and enough extra money to be saving for things.

I think there are tons of people in the same boat right now but not a lot of people talk about it.
I'm not ashamed of it. Shit happens. When we bought this house the market wasn't what it is now.
We both had jobs and regular raises. Jared had regular bonuses.
Obviously we knew we were going to be having kids and I wouldn't be working.
There was no way to predict the market though.
We can stick it out here and never be in a position to get ahead.
We can cut and run and put ourselves in a position to one day buy another house.
In the meantime though, we'll also be able to afford to do things.
Put the kids in swim classes, karate, t-ball, dance, preschool, cub scouts, etc.
Go on vacations, maybe get a 2nd car, upgrade our furniture.
Things of that nature. Staying here means we can't afford any extras.
F that!!

Barb sent me some links to places in Shakopee this morning.
My mom's not pleased but it's definitely a possibility. It's not like the commute to work for Jared would be too much longer.
It would suck to move so far from my mom but pretty cool to live so close to Rob & Barb.
One of the links Barb sent me was for a 4 BR/4 BA townhouse for $1250!!! That would be a total score!
Not sure if it'll still be around though when it actually comes time for us to move.

So that's where we're at.......
