Viewers often commented that her power promoted victim-blaming and rape culture. I didn't Alisha that way at all. Her power has been termed as "pheromone manipulation," meaning people touch her and then they want to have sex with her. Back in season one it seemed like I was continually seeing Alisha painted into a stereotype by fandom when I didn't see it in the show. I made the vid in a fit of annoyance at how fandom limited the character by making terrible remarks. Somewhat related-ly, it was like when I read a comment about Joan on Mad Men saying something close to "I'm a feminist, but Joan having 3 abortions makes her a bit of a whore." From what I had seen of Misfits fandom, they didn't like Alisha and dismissed her entirely except to make underhanded comments thinly veiled as critiques of the show. During season one I cannot remember seeing a single person online express positive feelings toward her character. I didn't understand that because I thought she was a fantastic character with an interesting power. A lot of viewers were speculating why the characters had the powers that they had. It was brought up many times that they had their certain powers for a reason, like a lesson they were supposed to learn. That thought was one of the primary arguments that arose around Alisha. She is one of the more sexual characters, which is up for debate. There was a lot of discussion around season one and her storyline where people were drawing that her character was supposed to realize sex was bad and she was wrong to use it the way she did. I don't know where the writers and creators of the show were going, but I never saw her power in that way. Her power was seen as a punishment. She often gets reduced to being a victim or a rapist. In a lot of ways, she's both and neither.

On a vidding level, I also wanted to fuck the viewer.

Of course I had to go watch the entire vid again. :-) I still like it very much. It always stood out for me even when I knew nothing about the show. When I watch that vid I see a woman at the height of her sexual power. The interesting thing was that I didn't know Alisha had any special power when I first watched the vid. I thought her power was just being her, attractive and confident in herself.

Very interesting. I admit that I thought her power reduced her to one or the other. I did try to see how she could use it in a positive way, and well, she did. She had sex with the men she wanted. But it seemed in the show that she grew frustrated with that, that she wanted more. And that's when I began to grow sad for her and felt her power limited her.

It didn't have to be that way but that's how it played for me. Interesting to me watching your vid is I don't think Alisha really needed a special power. She's got it all in herself. I think men (and women) will want her, power or not. Some people have something special that draws people to them and Alicia's got it and it's not just her looks.

I do like the women in your vids. Something about the way you vid them, it seems like they have these extraordinary gifts just by being women. And they are all hotter than firecrackers in your vids. :-)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts as vidder. Fascinating.

I think Alisha will always be my favorite. I can't wait until next season, especially after the finale.

I think they all were frustrated with their powers in someway. They're limited and they have no clue how to actually use them with true success. Curtis can't voluntarily rewind, Kelly can't shut off the thoughts she hears, Nathan didn't know what his power even was, Simon couldn't show his power to others. Her power didn't change her so to speak, but more how people react to her, which was the cause of her frustration perhaps.

I adore characters like Alisha and can't resist vidding them.

I love talking about vids, questions are always welcomed.
