I just finished reading a paper on the development of the Roman Rite from around the 1300s to the papacy of Pius V in the 1500s during the era of the Counter-Reformation. The paper wasn't terribly well written (fair number of typos throughout), but it was an interesting overview of the recent history of the Roman Rite and did a good job of outlining the very different nature of the formulation of the new rite ('Novus Ordo') introduced during the papacy of Paul VI in 1969.
Aside from reading the above and other articles on the old Roman Rite I haven't been doing much of note the past couple of days (not sure that the above can be considered noteworthy either :-) ). Friday afternoon we went out to the airport yet again to look for my still missing bag, and this time they had me fill out a claim in case it doesn't turn up. Quite frustrating. Extremely frustrating in fact. My great hope now is that someone read the address tag built into the front of the bag and will have it sent to Spring Arbor (grant this, O Lord!).
Oh, I also ran into the dad of my high school roommate yesterday at the SIM compound, which was quite cool. The family is on furlough in the Chicago area right now and it was quite a surprise to see Mr. Bell here :-). Hopefully he'll be joining us for supper with some other friends of ours tonight...
I guess that's it for recent events. Today's the last day of Christmas, but I'm cheating and have eggnog waiting for me when I get back to the States, so it won't really be over for me till the 24th or 25th when I finish the last of the eggnog :-). Nonetheless, I hope tomorrow is a good day for all of you - it's the Circumcision of Christ, a very popular feast from the life of the Lord in the East ;-). (Just another part of His sanctification of every aspect of our earthly lives.)
