Guess I won't be attending ANorth this year after all. When I went to the post office this morning to apply for a passport, they said I needed a better birth certificate, because apparently the version I have was recalled for being easily frauded. Unfortunately, there is a pretty big backlog in getting passports, from what I hear. However, IIRC, the passport requirement goes into effect on June first. If you will be back before then, you shouldn't really NEED a passport.

That's if I travel by land or sea though. Since I don't get back from Hawaii until a day or two before ANorth, air travel seems like the only way to get there in time.

You know what I think is strange? You need a birth certificate to apply for a passport, but what do you need to apply for a birth certificate? I mean, how can you prove that's you or am I missing something crucial?

you don't apply for a birth certificate. a birth certificate is filed when you are born. It is kept in a government office (which one depends on where you were born). I think that a copy is given to your parents at this time. You can also buy notarized copies, but I have no idea what you need to get one. Two pieces of ID, I think. not sure. never had to do so yet. (used the one my mom had when I went to get my drivers license. I think she may have had it from when she applied for security clearance for her job, though)
