One more time... (3 of 40)

Jun 26, 2008 02:19

So much for starting earlier. It's already twenty minutes past when I started last night.

This whole party prep thing is harder to swing than I was expecting. I still have fifty more video to organize before I actually get down to selecting videos for the party and creating the playlist. Good thing tomorrow night is another short shift. Another 11:30 closing shift, but still pretty short. I can just stay up through tomorrow night if I need to set more stuff up. I hope my sister helps a little with the room cleaning, since I'll probably not have much time to do that myself (depending on how long it takes to set up the playlist; for all I know it could take twenty minutes). Actually, that's a good point. I'm gonna be transferring all the videos to my external drive for TV viewing, so there'll be a lot of downtime for transferring to clean stuff. Either way, though, she doesn't do much during the day anyway, and the party was her idea. She should at least do something to help out.

Speaking of videos, I should really try to get some editing done over the weekend. At the very least, I'd like to start on my Pro video. Funny thing about my Pro video: I was originally planning on making it for Acen/final project in editing class instead of Retrospect, and I was gonna make Retrospect a lot later. I'm glad I made the switch though, because the timeframe fit the song length perfectly. If I'd waited a year or two like I'd planned, I'd have had to put a lot more work into it to make it work. Wow. It just hit me that I've been editing for three years now. 2005 still feels like last year. Well, maybe a year and a half ago. At any rate, these three years have just been a blur of awesomeness. Course, that might be because I have a terrible sense of time and end up lumping all of my time active in the amv community together.

Anyway, as I was saying, I really want to start on my Pro video, because if I don't make the Pro deadline, I'll feel like I wasted time I could have spent on my FMV2 segment. Granted, considering the way the thread hasn't been posted in for almost a month, and that ulty has been too busy to talk to people about betas (I hear), not to mention all the dropouts, I wouldn't be surprised if ended up having to wait until she gets back from Spain to be finished. I'll still shoot for the August 1st deadline, of course, but my segment's really been mostly finished since the first beta deadline months ago. All I have left to do is change the ending somehow and include more than two different scenes. Make it a little more interesting somehow. Which reminds me, I should finish playing through Psychonauts again to get to rank 100. I wanna watch that bonus video. Hmm, maybe the footage I need for my video is on one of the cutscenes I couldn't rip...

Oh yeah, I should totally send Todd those death scenes too. They've just been sitting here for months.

Another reason I want to make the Pro deadline is so that I won't have any lingering projects after August starts, so that I can focus on my Silencer. That's right, for the first time ever, I'm actually working on a video with no deadline attached to it whatsoever. I want this video to be as perfect as it is in my head, so I refuse to rush it. It probably won't take nearly as long as I imagine it will, considering the length, but on the other hand, I'll be learning and using techniques I've never tried before so that'd extend the work time. Unless of course I have used those techniques before, and the real issue is fine tuning those skills. Oh well, I don't need to really think about it much more until after FMV2. The real focus right now should be on my Pro video, but I keep getting other video ideas that I want to start. I'm in editing limbo. T__T

Wow, this is a very video-centric entry tonight. Guess I've got videos on the brain, despite not watching very many tonight. You'd think I'd be dwelling more on work happenings again, but not much really happened today. Then again, I did find out that Kathie has no clue when my badge is gonna arrive. She said they might be waiting for the next wave of badges before they ship them out, so I'm figuring it won't take much longer than another couple of weeks. After all, two weeks from this Friday, I'll have been with Kohl's exactly one year. I'm sure they'll send out the badges for the other people who started at the same time as I did around then, so mine'll probably show up around then as well. I hope.

Man, I just realized: most of the people I started with are gone. Leslie got fired last week, so that only leaves... Kayla, possibly Robert C (haven't seen him in a while though)... and me. Holy crap. I could have sworn there were more of us left! O_O! I should really check that when I get in tomorrow, because that's actually kinda surprising. There were like 30 people in the group I was in for orientation. I feel kinda old now. I mean, I probably shouldn't since some of my coworkers have been working at that store since it opened four years ago, but still. Most of the people who trained me are gone now too. Guess that's retail for you.

I'm pretty sure I'll get that promotion probably, assuming they don't change their minds about replacing Chelsea, but if I don't, I wonder if I should still stay with Kohl's. On the one hand, it's easier to not try and find a new job. I'm also guaranteed my current salary, plus whatever bonuses I get with credit solicitations. I like (most of) the people there, and I've grown pretty comfortable with it. Also, it'd probably look better on applications/resumes to say I stuck with a job for a long time. On the other hand, it's pretty much twenty minutes away, and traffic's almost always a bitch and a half. Gas prices are still climbing and all that, and it's in the opposite direction of school. I have kinda wanted to get a job that's actually in the same town where I live, especially one that's not a store. I'm getting tired of selling things. I wanna try something like clerical work, or working at a library, or taking care of old people, or working for an airline. I know the airline one isn't really anywhere near Orangevale, and it's more something for later in life, but the others aren't that out there. I could totally do those. Well, I guess that settles that. I mean, really the only valid reason to stay is the "looks better to stay longer", but either way I'll have been there for at least a year. That should be good enough for most types of jobs I'd be applying for before graduation.

Granted, if I do get the promotion, I'll totally stay. I won't complain about nine something an hour. It'll change things up by giving me extra duties, I'll have a more regular schedule since that position is pretty much only closing. Probably be a pretty decent way to spend the next ten months before I move to Chicagoland. :]
