I'm done! Don Imus was let go from his simulcast on MSNBC yesterday from what they say was part of an ongoing review. What this was a personal crusade by Al Shaprton to get this man off the air. He was let go because of pressure from Sharpton and from advertisers threatening to pull out, not because they feel anything on the subject but because Sharpton asked black people to boycott companies that continued to advertise on the simulcast. And keep in mind that he's not even happy, he still wants Imus off CBS radio.
Why are you trying to destroy this man Sharpton? For a comment that isn't even that big of a deal...it's not. When comics say ten times worse things on a regular basis. This was a clear cut case of not wanting to look at his own culture. It was only this morning, AFTER Imus was fired that Sharpton even mentioned the music industry and did not SINGLE OUT rap music. It's ridiculous. Sharpton said, we're not trying to limit free speech, we only want to single out hurtful words. You stupid asshole, as soon as you limit ANY words you are limiting free speech, something that I"M SUPPOSED TO ENJOY AS AN AMERICAN. And guess what, I will still enjoy that freedom. I will say what i want, when i want, and if someone is offended, then stop talking to me. This is now turning into a crusade on my part, because it's ridiculous. The double standard here is overwhelming. Call me out on white privilege, call me out on whatever you want I no longer care.
Patrice O'neal on the Opie and Anthony show this morning said that he is appalled by all of this. "We're getting to a point where this will start to hinder what I as a comic can say. Why are we stonewalling this man, he did NOTHING wrong. Furthermore, it's basically a situation where black people in this country are saying we WANT a double standard. We want to be able to say whatever we want and everyone else (white people, let's face it) can't enjoy the same freedom." Again I applaud O'neal, a BLACK MAN, for being honest. Go Patrice. Patrice further said, "This whole thing sucks because I own words, I give them power, not the people who use them. If you're offended by nappy headed hoes or the word nigger, than turn the channel." Opie and Anthony have stated that they will NOT back down from how they run their show and if terrestrial radio starts imposing restrictions on them they'll turn right back to satellite and tell Free FM to go fuck themselves. Again I applaud this.
This is ridiculous. And I call to anyone on this friends list (not that I have many of course, since their are at least two on here who will automatically disagree with me) to back up your free speech. Don't let Sharpton impose a double standard, don't let our freedoms go out the door because someone go offended. Guess what, they can turn the channel.
