Okay, I can understand the idea of cross-promotion, but I'm always a little surprised when I'm pouring some cat litter from the bin and out pops a hermetically sealed packet of cat food/snacks. It's sorta like packing granola bars or slim jims inside the tubes of toilet paper rolls.
We're adjusting to shopping at the County Market by our new home. It's better than the one in Southern View, but they still lack a few things. The organic section is pretty good, almost a nice as the Philo location in Urbana. They're working on expanding the selections, so I think it be really good in a while. The main problems we've noticed in the produce section is the lack of mushroom selection, just plain white or sometimes portabellas, nothing else. And leeks are $5-6 a pound! The upside is that they have a $6.99 mix-a-six beer section. It's nothing like what you see at Friar Tuck's, but yesterday I found some coffee stout, pumpkin ale, San Miguel Dark, and other goodies.
The thing I've noticed here is that in general the shredded cheese packs don't go on sale nearly as often as in C-U, and when they are on sale, it's not as cheap. You don't get the 3/$5 or $0.99 sales like you do in C-U.
Ah, Black Friday. I slept for about 4 hours, got up at 3:45 with pt and my sister and we did the crazy shopping for a few hours. Probably didn't need to go so early, but we found a massive sale on a Kitchen Aid stand mixer, which is something we've wanted for a *long* time, so we couldn't pass it up. I love this thing. It's light years away from our little hand mixer thing that would start grinding and smoking whenever we tried to mix up any dough thicker than peanut butter. The real bonus is having your hands free to prep the next ingredients to throw into the mixer; it really does save time.
Nothing like sitting in the car at Target at 5:55am, heater cranked and blasting Digitalism, laughing at the people standing in line, and laughing at ourselves for participating in this ludicrous ritual. So we didn't get a goodie bag or first dibs on a $10 DVD player, but we didn't need those anyway. I got a Singer sewing machine, which allowed me to finally got back to several projects that have been sitting for a year since my Kenmore sewing table locked up. I'll bring it in to get fixed one day, but at this point it's going to be more hassle than it's worth. I got it for $25 and the wood table alone is worth more than that, so I come out ahead even if I never get it fixed. I needed something a bit more modern anyway. Rationalization at its best.
