China King Lunch Special: $4

Finally made the trip out to St. Joseph yesterday. I was planning for lunch at one of the local places, or gas station grub if necessary. I was surprised to find a little Chinese food shack, which was pretty good. It's a small place, right across the street from St. Joe-Ogden H.S. Only a few tables and chairs inside, with several picnic tables in the back, overlooking the IGA parking lot.

I had the crab stick+fried rice+soda special for just over $4. Most of the lunch specials are in that price range. I want to go back, maybe for a drive, or another mini-tour with other riders.

According to a sign posted in the window of one of the downtown buildings, El Toro is adding a location in St. Joe, which is pretty cool.

I love rolling into these small towns, where the downtown consists of a one-block Main street, one stoplight, and parking spaces with NO meters. Though so far, I would rank the St. Joe ride 3rd, behind Philo(2) and Tolono(1). I like to ride on the country roads and avoid the busy roads like rt. 130(Philo), 45(Tolono), and 150(University to St. Joe). The speed limit on 150 is 45/55mph and there is a soft shoulder, with less than a foot of hard pavement to the right of the painted line. 130 and 45 are much better with larger hard shoulders, but they have even more traffic.

For Tolono, the straight shot down first street is the smoothest and flattest. Also, you never have to ride on a busy 45mph road to get to Tolono. The Philo back road route is more hilly than the St. Joe route, but those roads are more well-traveled and are smoother. Or at least, the slurry/gravel pavement on the St. Joe route is newer, and thus rougher.

Total mileage, with riding around c-u and grocery shopping before and after: 32 miles.
