Here comes god...

Uh oh! It would seem there is a rather large and scary hurricane heading our way. At the moment it is a catagory 3 (111-130 mph), recently down graded from a catagory 4 (131-155 mph), but apparently may well pick up strength again before it reaches us next week, although fingers crossed intensity will decrease. ALL of the computer models of its potential track converge right on miami which is frankly terrifying. Before I came here hurricane wilma, which hit Miami as a catagory 1 completely decimated the city, leaving it without power for over a week, I can only imagine what might happen if this thing does actually hit us. We have no hurricane shutters on our apartment and are surrounded by big tall palm trees, we are also on the top floor and every room has a couple of windows in it......

Im not really sure what we are going to/can do. We also dont have insurance for our stuff (should the roof blow off and all our shit get rained on) and the insurance companies have stopped writing insurance policies because apparently we are in a "state of emergency". We cant really leave since our old car is not up to a long trip, plus running up north is a little pointless unless you are going to really really run up north as the chances of the storm following are pretty high (tropical storm fay the other week hit florida FOUR times from different sides!). The only other options are to stay put and prey the roof doesnt come off (I think we could cope with blown in windows but if the roof goes we are FUCKED, plus the big trees are ominously scary), at least we wont get flooded being on the top floor. Or and I guess it depends how bad this thing is really going to be we might see if we can go to Daniels professors house as they have hurricane shutters and I know they are probably going to leave since they have a baby, and just try and ride it out there. Only problem with that is I think they would get flooded and Im not sure if they are in a mandatory evacuation zone. So I suppose its a choice between no roof or being in a flooded.

Ive never been scared of the weather before, always loved the tropical thunderstorms we get here, but right now I am really really scared, people fucking die in these things and as we saw with Katrina, the government are not going to come rescue us. Theyve told us to get two weeks worth of water and food which kind of makes it even more scary - TWO weeks, no ones going to come and help for TWO weeks!! I think everythings all over streched because there was a big hurricane that hit new orleans last week and a tropical storm thats going to hit north carolina tomorrow. We have some important choices to think about in the next few days, wish us luck...
