Grump, grump, grump... Not having a good day so far! I phoned the US embassy this morning to make an appointment to renew my American passport. They disconnected me, or lost me in the transfer system 7 times!!! And when I finally got through to a human being it turns out I can't come in and drop off a passport application, I have to post it, which can take up to 4 weeks to process. I asked about fast tracking it, and they said they only do that for life and death situations where the travel is already booked and you need to go within 36 hours. Well, I'm not willing to hope I'd get an appointment within the 36 hours before we flew. I asked if I could come in and renounce my American citizenship so I could travel on my Australian passport, but apparently there is a rush on for renouncing citizenship (HA!!) and the next appointment is in September! So, no trip to America for us these holidays. I got my Australian passport renewed last week, the contrast is incredible - their website was easy to navigate, very clear, and when I phoned they were helpful. I dropped my old passport and the form for renewal off Thursday afternoon, I had my new passport delivered on Saturday morning! so now we are looking at last minute breaks in Europe. Anywhere sunny please! I'm so fed up with grey and rain and cool... This is summer dammit, I want to feel like it!
