You should really read Karl Marx's early Paris writings and/or Erich Fromm's "To Have or To Be?" -- both kind of go into detail about how work that truly satisfies the soul is the essence of happiness. Reading that third paragraph I couldn't help but think of it. Depression presupposes that the status quo is the ideal environment for happiness -- wretched excess, material wealth, technological advances, convenience for the sake of convenience, etc

and I will definitely check out those books, man. Thanks for the recommendations. Right now, I'm reading Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami... and not too long ago, I finished reading Women by Bukowski which I could go on and on how that book made me feel.
