I went to my high school reunion Saturday evening with
Chris and
Su. Su and I were from the same graduating class. We were the first to arrive, even though we were a few minutes late. They let us go into the reception room, but later we found out that they had pretty much made everyone else wait in the hotel lobby, then 30-60 minutes later opened the door, and the classmates came flooding in. I saw my old Latin teacher, Mrs. Ireland, which was great. My drama instructor was not there, and several other closer friends from back then were MIA, which was disappointing, but I did see several people from the old high school.
One of my best friends, Chris Walls (yes, another Chris), showed up near the end. I had mixed feelings about seeing him, because he came from a Southern Baptist family, and after high school went career military, which was a double whammy in the progress for gay acceptance. I wasn't sure how he would react; but he acted very cool about meeting my other half, so I was relieved and thankful that he showed up so we could catch up some. I found out that for a period of time, he was stationed near Austin, and we could have hung out if we had only known about each other's location. Overall, the reunion was fun, but I wish we had shown up 2 hours later, as the first couple of hours was very lame and boring.
After the reunion, the three of us (Chris, Su, and I), went to a local pub that Su frequents, and I got to see some of her real life acquaintances that she has mentioned in conversations.
