Yesterday I was discharged from the hospital. During the previous week, I had what appeared to be a pimple turn into what appeared to be a coldsore turn into what appeared to be an infection. My doctor had given me some bactrim to cure it, but after a couple of days went by, the swelling in my lower lip had not decreased, and so I went to the ER at 3am last Saturday. I figured they would give me an IV of antibiotics and send me home with some more pills. They thought it was better to admit me to the hospital for a few days. This turned into over four days of various IV-administered antibiotics. By Wednesday morning, they discovered it was MRSA, a resistant strain of staph, which may be related to the infection I had in my leg several months ago.
My lip is severely chapped looking, and almost looks like I got it beat up from a fight. The swelling has gone down quite a bit, though, and I'm hoping it will be back to normal this weekend. I'm on two prescriptions now for 10 days: one is 90 pills that would have cost $100 without insurance; the other is 20 pills that would have cost $700 without insurance. Luckily, I have insurance, and they each cost me $30.
Before getting sick, I celebrated at Mark's 35th birthday party, where I ran into someone who was not only a rebound guy that Chris dated after me, but also was indirectly part of the reasoning behind the mini-drama at my Christmas party. He was a nice guy, and it was odd how many different ways we knew each other in a Kevin-Bacon sorta way. Mark was being kissy-kissy on several of us, which was quite amusing. He had a great time, but a horrible hangover.
I'm playing catch-up now at work. I won't be going out now for a while, being on the antiobiotics, so that should force me to take the time to deal with some bookkeeping that I've been putting off.
