I finished reading through Invictus yesterday. I tried to post it all to ao3, but it stopped working in the middle of it, so I only got up to chapter 44. Will hopefully finish uploading the rest of that this week.
I need to read through NoG to better get in Harry's state of mind, but honestly, I'm embarrassed because it was the first thing I had ever written and I was learning how to write and I know it's not my best work and I know that it drags in parts. I just need to bite the bullet and dive in.
I did read the ending of NoG, just to get myself in the right headspace and also because I had forgotten most of it. It was fun reading Invictus and having no idea what exactly happened other than the very ending and being confused as hell by Severus's planning.
Honestly, I was shocked by how ruthless I was in NoG towards the other characters. I remember why I killed so many of them. I was so autistically focused on Canon™ and I didn't want to depart from Canon™. With the distance of time and not the hyperfocus on canon, I now think, from a story perspective, it would've been better had Harry been able to save more of the people who died in canon.
When I look at the overall story arc, I think it would've shown that Severus had accidentally actually trained Harry to be a much fighter than either of them realized. Yes, Severus was actually trying to train him towards the end, but he managed to help him more than he realized.
It's too late now to do a rewrite, but I'm glad that I have this experience because it makes me less nervous about not remembering canon. (Although I still want to get as close to it as I can as long as it serves the story.)
To do:
Finish uploading Invictus to ao3
Start uploading RoS to ao3
Read through NoG
Finish RoS
I also found an
old playlist I made when writing the stories to help me get in the characters' head. Unfortunately, some of the videos have been removed with time. The newest addition to the playlist is
Celion Dion's Ashes, which is my current theme for RoS.
