Okay, fangirls, I've seen this in a high enough percentage of stories involving Terra and Aqua as kids that it seems to be a trend, and I really don't get it

Do young boys really look at girls of their own age and think, "she should be in the kitchen making me a sandwich?" I'd tend to assume that kids' versions of "you shouldn't be fighting, you should be doing X" would tend to turn X into some kind of play thing (playing with dolls, picking flowers, etc.) rather than work. =P
Yes, I agree with this. My hilariously over-generalized sense, browsing around, is that if the JP fandom tends to inflate Terra's cutesy moe-moe side a little much, the English fandom at this point seems to have kind of a hard time pinning down his personality in general. So I think writers at this stage - especially since the game hasn't been released here yet - might kind of fall back on his roles for characterization--his role as a "big brother", or his role as "the guy tempted to darkness", or, in this case, his role as "Aqua's love interest" or "the guy who's there to highlight how awesome Aqua is

Terra, to me, is a lot of fun to think about and talk about, but he is absolutely excruciating to write. I really love his odd, in some ways counter-intuitive, balance of characteristics and the way it really makes his personality stand out, but trying to represent his actual voice and get it right feels almost impossible.
So yeah, sometimes it's a little frustrating to see very few, if any Terras in fanwork that really feel "right" to me, but I think he's just a very tough character to pin down in that sense, and I don't think I'm really up to the task, either. Sexist or "jealous of Aqua" Terra does kind of get to me in particular, though, because I think that tends to reflect... not really even trying to be attentive to who Terra is, but forcing him into a certain typecast mold because of an author wanting to do a particular thing with Aqua, if that makes any sense.
