I WISH I HAD SOMETHING WITTIER TO SAY HERE

Firstlies, fandom, There is a such thing as going too far, even when it comes to defending a character, an idea, a fic or taste.  You start crossing over into that icky area of generalizing that you stigmatize the haters for.  YOU...BECOME ONE OF THEM. *gasp*  You either completely misread a character or deny them any flaws, responsibility for their actions or malice (see: woobiefication) or jump all over anyone who dislikes a certain element of fandom as a troll or hater.   You start judging a person based only on their tastes in fandom!  Everyone has their reasons for disliking what they dislike, and not all of them are invalid.  Some fans dislike Kairi simply because she doesn't rock their boat as a personality, not because she has girlparts.  Just like some fans like Kairi simply because she rocks their boat as a personality, and not because she has girlparts.

Plus, the idea or character you are defending may not be being as hated-on as you believe.

And before you start nodding your head or casting stones as if you've never done so yourself (Hey!  I know I have!), this applies to all aspects of fandom; it's not just the good characters getting it, or the bad ones, or the males or the females, or the het, yuri or yaoi.  All are, at some point, disproportionately and illogically defended as much as they are hated, along with their respective fans and not-fans.

Try and find the middle ground.  Don't generalize or stereotype characters or other fans.  Keep your own biases in mind while condemning others for theirs.

Ok, that wasn't the most well put.  Anything. :/

Secondly, kind-of-sorta-not-really along that vein, every member of the Organization has their skill, their expertise.  It's not hard to see or write how they could utilize their skills effectively in battle, and I don't peg a single one of them as categorically 'the weakest".

Still, just because you like a particular member or make them the focus of your fic does not automatically make them the strongest thing to ever have bishonen hair, either, unless you're talking about Xemnas (Sorry, no contest.  He controls nothingness. Darkness.  Chuck Norris.  Can turn any other member into a dusk before they've injured him enough to kill him.  Not so sure one single sneak attack could do it either, if that is what you're thinking. )  And I see it all the time, even in otherwise brilliantly written and characterized fics.  Just because your writing ZexLex doesn't mean everyone positively COWERS before Lexaeus at every flex of his muscles.  Just because Demyx proved to be more powerful than expected in KH2 doesn't mean he sekritly holds enough power to take over the Organization.

Some quick notes.  Listed for effect.

- You're dealing with a group of individuals with elemental powers, that means that they all have both strengths and weakness, and they aren't necessarily limited to Poke'mon type categories.  Take Lexaeus and Larxene.  You'd think Lexaeus would clearly be the stronger, but just because Lexaeus controls rock doesn't necessarily mean his body possesses its invulnerability to electricity (in fact, electricity can pass through it, such as when lighting strikes ground and emits shockwaves) and Larxene definitely has the advantage of speed.  This doesn't mean Larxene is clearly the stronger here, either.  Point being, there is no real cut and dry when it comes to 'who would win in a fight' scenarios.  It takes a little more effort when writing a fic to put it that way, sure, but I'll for one appreciate it.

- No one wants to read a fic where characters they may happen to like act like pussies around your favorite.  Fact.

- How difficult an Organization member was to fight in the game isn't always the gold standard for measuring their strength, since your mileage will vary.  It's definitely a place to start, but not really infallible.  Sure, Marluxia wasn't altogether a very challenging boss for most fans, but that tends to be a trend in KH when it comes to the bigger, more robot-y ship-y parts of boss battles.  They are easier than the one on one fights.

-No really I love ZexLex but it needs to stop it with this.

- Same song millionth verse.  You can write a character as strong or awesome, but there are limits and for the love of peanut butter on oreos put some thought, perspective and effort into it.

Don't worry guys, Lexaeus won't hurt me for talkin' smack about him.  He only does that WHEN YOU INSULT HIS ZEXYMUFFIN, of course.

Le sigh.

Edited for spelling fail

EDIT THE SECOND:  To clear things up, the second rant is more about the annoyances of writers playing favorites and sueing up an Organization member, not fighting and elemental mechanics.  We all know Vexen isn't as weak as the 12 year olds in the fandom paint him to be.  It has been discussed at great length already on this comm.
