"But why is all the FA fiction gone?"

Aug 01, 2006 14:28

Or rather, why doesn't it exist yet?

(As usual, I'm putting a disclaimer: Unless you have something intelligent to say, and are open-minded, do not reply to this. I've seen enough flames over this sort of thing on deviantART. Also, this rant can also be found on my LJ (by accident, actually).)

Yes, that's my icon for the journal. )

FA is not my kink, but I do have a weird one so I try not to dismiss fanfic with odd kinks out of hand. But, most unusual fetish/kink based fanfic is badly written, and I'm not sure why. I read that one FA fic, "The Fat Song," but it was really awful. The KH vore fics out there is another example. I've read some of them, but I've never read one that was actually a decent fic.

Because they tend to be bad, they do indeed make for hilarious reading sometimes. Bad fanfiction seems to get funnier when there's "WTF?" kinks thrown in.

Actually, "The Fat Song" was a middle category FA fic. Those are the ones that have some amount of plot and closer IC characterization that the low category ones.

As for why it's badly written, probably because it's not so much meant to be read as actual fiction as more arousal literature.

I'm worried about what a low category one would look like now, since I remember the prose being pretty low level and the characters being off too. But, I guess it attempted characterization and a plot.

Did "The Fat Song" get taken down? I just went to take another look at it and couldn't find it.

I think so. I've tried to find it using every part of the title, but no dice.

Shame, really. It was one of the few KH FA fictions that I've read that was fairly good. At least in comparison to others.

Low fics are atrocities that are so badly written, it's not even funny. If you want, I'll find this one Kim Possible one for you as an example.

Sure, I'm curious about how bad is bad now.

http://forum.animexpansion.com/index.php?s=1f2e9e6870bcfb02725de35ba84d36be&showtopic=14187 - This is by far one of the worst examples of FA fiction. Completely OOC, it doesn't even have a plot.

http://forum.animexpansion.com/index.php?s=1f2e9e6870bcfb02725de35ba84d36be&showtopic=14211 - This one, while still the same theme, is noticeably different in that it at least tries to be plot-centric. While it can still be done better, it is obviously better than the first one.

A warning though: Do not go beyond these topics, unless you're curious as to what sort of culture this is. Mind you, this board is the equivalent of the fanits in KH, so this isn't a good example of an FA community.

Hahaha, those are pretty awful, but fuuny.

You don't have to worry about me, unusual fetishes are something I'm fascinated with. I've actually looked into the culture of FA and many other odd kinks before. I don't find FA that strange and not much shocks me nowadays.

Ah, good to hear, good to hear. As for an example of high FA fiction, here: http://shugamri.livejournal.com/983.html#cutid1 It's a story I posted earlier today, one of over 50 drabbles.

While not particularly my cup of tea, that is better written than the vast majority of kink-based fic I've seen.

Glad to hear that. Yeah, I always try to include an actual reason as to why the characters are gaining. For example, in an epic that's still in the planning stages, I intend to have a character curse Maleficent with "what all women fear", as punishment for her crimes.

But yeah, something that I'd like to see is some non-FAs actually try and write this sort of thing.
