One thing I love about this fandom is that Nomura purposely made no canon romantic relationships (except with Disney characters). There's no Team Edward fangirl or Kataang shipper belitting you because your pairing isn't canon. So it kind of bugs me when people say "Well, MY pairing is better because it has more subtext!"
"Subtext" is subjective. No matter what your pairing is, you can find subtext in the game.
Xaldin/Belle? "OMG Xaldin was covering Belle's hand that is so kinky!"
Xemnas/Kingdom Hearts? "OMG Xemnas made a speech full of romantic overtones and then went "inside" Kingdom Hearts. D'awww!"
All those phallic symbols in the Orgy's headquarters? Subtext.
"What do you want from me?" "That depends on what you have to give"? Sora/Marluxia Subtext.
"Sora came, so Riku followed"? Sora/Riku/Voyeur!Vexen subtext!
"What happened to our clothes"? Goofy/Donald subtext, etc. Every action between two characters can be intrepreted as subtext if you look hard enough.
Why do you have to play the subtext card? Can't Sora/Riku and Sora/Kairi fans co-exist, and recognize that both sides just see subtext differently?
