Are multiple pairings really nessesary?

The title pretty much explains the post. As I was going through fanfiction.net in search of goodfic, I noticed a lot of "Sora/Kairi, Riku/OC, Roxas/Namine" and in some cases, even a fourth of fifth pairing like Leon/Yuffie or Cloud/Tifa. That is a lot to put in one story where the main genre isn't romance (note that I disregarded any fics where the ( Read more... )

I'd rather have multiple warnings than no warning at all. No, not everyone has to find a significant other, but if it's conducive to plot and any point to the story whatsoever, I'd like to know about it before hand. Especially for those people who are pairing-picky.

Wait - you mean you don't like Zexion/Carpet? What's the matter with you!? Zexion/Carpet is the ultimate OTP!!!

Pfft… you're both wrong. ~*REAL*~ fans ship Zexion/Tea. Zexion/Carpet is juvenile and too many trendbrats choose Zexion/Lexicon.

ADMIT IIIT.

Blasphemer! How can you not see that Zexion and Tea share a deep, meaningful and entirely platonic relationship? Admit it, you're one of those people who think a Nobody and his beverage can't possibly just be friends! Why, I bet you ship Vexen/Coffee as well!

YOU DON'T KNOW ME AT ALL, U IDIOT. IF YOU DID, YOU WOULD REALIZE THAT VEXEN/LOTION IS TRUE LOVE.

TEA AND ZEXION SHARE A SULTRY, PROMISCUOUS AND LICENTIOUS RELATIONSHIP. TEA IS FAR TOO SEXY AND DELICIOUS FOR ZEXION TO RESIST. THEY ALSO HAVE A LOT IN COMMON. ZEXION/CARPET SHARE NOTHING AND ZEXION/LEXICON IS THE REAL PLATONIC RELATIONSHIP. ZEXION WOULD NEVER FORNICATE WITH A BOOK.

If it's relevant to the plot and done well, I don't have any problems with multiple pairings. Though to be honest, and I'm positive people will disagree with me on this...I'm mixed on the idea of pairing tags. On the one hand, they are convinient, but on the other...it feels like a spoiler (especially for chaptered works)

Mind you, as you've said, there are a lot of pairing-picky people. If someone *didn't* include those tags, their hit count would either suffer, or they'd get a lot of flak I'm sure.
