Edit: I'm not really annoyed when good writers capitalize 'darkness' and, you know, use pronouns. But when a purple prose author decides to capitalize "Darkness" ten times in one paragraph, and occasionally even capitalize 'the' (which has happened before in some badfic I didn't bother to spork, or read through past the first couple of paragraphs), that's when I get tetchy.
I'd really rather see it uncapitalized a zillion times. At least then it doesn't look like a shoddy fourth-rate fantasy novel invaded Kingdom Hearts fandom.
