On Character development, plot-holes and crossovers.

Hello there!

I've just finished KH2. I loved the game (kicking and slicing buildings FTW!), but its plot left me wondering about some aspects which are rarely touched in most fanfics (or at least the ones in FF.net, though I admit I haven't surfed the KH section too much).

I've read both in this community and in

forgotten characters, disney

I remember reading an awesome drabble that featured Max (Goofy's son) and how he felt about his father being away.

I can't tell you how much that's been bugging me. I mean Pete has a son too, but Max is more of a known Disney character with the gang than PJ is. Plus, you have Donald's NEPHEWS and UNCLE in the game--where's the Goofy family love? Sure Clara Belle was walking around in Timeless River, but that only counts if you harbor the theory that Max is their son. (Goofy is a pimp, you see. He's been with several different women, yet we aren't sure who Max's mother is XD) But yes, HUGE WTF on that one. I guess as far as KH canon goes, Goofy doesn't have a son because just as easily as he is written with him, he's written without him.

And besides the fact that with all the Disney characters come with "built in characterization and pre-destined stories", I think that kinda helps along the "No in-game development" thing. I mean, when you get to the round, usually they are in the middle of the movie, so you have to rely on your movie knowledge outside this game to know what happened. If you haven't seen the movie, you're kinda screwed in the "Give a damn" department. Even with the movies being tweaked to include Sora and him helping out with relationships, situations, etc., it's rarely touched on the friendship he has built up with these characters. He's FOUGHT along side a bunch of them, but only a few have mentioned gone "Hey buddy, what's up?". They're all thrilled to see him (as shown by the 29803749238742 times they all went "Sora! Donald! Goofy!"), but it doesn't help that you're pretty much there to fight and not really chit-chat or go into deep conversations like the main plot of the game. It's a blend I kinda wish was worked on a little more because the whole "DISNEY FILLER! OMG!" thing is getting old :P

I think with Sora, Donald and Goofy, they were trying to focus more on their bond than actual facts because those three together are absolute dorks now XD. They were dorky before, but now they're SUPER MEGA DORKS. You're starting to see the influence of those two on Sora, even if it's not as obvious the other way around. I do think he has influenced them, though.

And Sora's mother--lolz. You heard her for what? 5 seconds? What does she think he's doing? Out getting milk? XD

XD I hope he doesn't come back empty handed. She's gonna be pissed and he'll be grounded.

"I don't care if you're the Keyblade Master and you have to save the world from evil, as long as you live under my roof you'll do what I say. Now go clean up your room! And no using magnet to shove all the clothes under the bed like last time!"

If my fourteen-year-old son suddenly dissapeared for almost two years, I'd sure lock him inside the house until he'd turn 25 XDDDD.

And then I'd visit a psychologist to wonder why the hell I forgot about him for a year, even if there were pictures and his room all that time.

I seriously wonder if they are going to bring her back because I really want to know how they are going to handle that. Unless they do some crazy stuff like "Sora's mom is that female we see in the super secret special ending" thing.

She's been sleep on the couch for a year XD

That'd be so WTF-ry it'd be AWESOME! XD

"Mom? What's a keyblade doing in the attic?"

Oh, you know what they say: Like Mommy like Son (including the laziness).

I've never read about that Clara Belle theory! O_o. Is it wrong that I'm imagining Max with horns or something "cow-esque"?.

I always thought that Max's mom was some generic dog-like character, as mysterious as the parents of Donald's nephews, Daisy's nieces and any other parental figure that is not an aunt or uncle. WTF, Disney.

Really, when I first watched the Goofy Movie I was impressed that Goofy was a FATHER instead of an uncle. And really, really surprised that Pete even had a WIFE and not a perpetual girlfriend (Mickey and Donald, when will you settle down? XD).

Oh, and about Sora's mother. I find it funny that it's almost a fanon fact that he doesn't have a father just because we only heard from her. Is it because he's a Disney protagonist, and therefore he MUST have a missing parent?

It's not harbored by most because that would make Max half dog, half...cow? XD and he looks too much like a dog, so I don't really go with that myself. I think he had a mom and she died when he was little. I can't remember if it was mentioned on Goof Troop or not, but that's usually the story with most Disney characters. You're not allowed to have both your parents in the Disney canon XD

Goofy is a damn good single father, and that's a good movie! Pete's family always amazed me because his wife Peg totally PWN3D him XD. (Psh, Mickey and Donald are never settling down. They've been dating for 50 years--pimps for life XD. They are going to be "Friends with benefits" forever.)

I kinda believe he doesn't have a father either not because of the whole "Disney characters are usually missing a parent" thing (although I can't say that hasn't helped influence it..), but simply because he doesn't really seem like he's had a strong male influence in his life that isn't a friend for some reason. I can't really explain it. He's not all "ANGST! MY FATHER WAS A JERK AND LEFT ME AND MY MOM! WOE! I NEVER KNEW HIM! WAH!", but it's just a feeling. It's probably gas, though XD
