Ok, so, my sister and I are perusing fanfiction.net for some unspoken reason, when we notice this
fic we are sporking had been updated. Intrigued that such a fic got 27 reviews, we clicked on them, not surprisingly to find that about 22 of them are all from the same person. We scrolled down the page, maybe hoping to find a decent flame, when I come across this:
no offense but your grammar and spelling is bad :P but its ok because this is just a fan fic... very good story
Point 1: Well, you're one hell of a hypocrite, aren't you?
Point 2: Let me get this straight:
JUST BECAUSE IT'S A FANFIC DOES NOT GIVE YOU AN EXUSE TO RAPE THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE.
If you're a dork like me, and have read the ff.net rules, you will notice that they say: "Spell check all stories and poems. There is no excuse for not doing this. If you do not have a word processor that has the spell checking feature, use a search engine such as Google.Com to find one.Proofread all entries for grammar and other aspects of writing before submission. 'Hot off the press' content is often riddled with errors. No one is perfect but it is the duty of the writer to perform to the best of his/her ability." This means that your "For some reason i dont have that spell check thing even though i used microsoft word, it told me there will be no spell check" excuse isn't valid.
Writing fanfiction may not be as honorable, as say, writing an original novel or essay... but for god's sake, people! If you refuse to write well here, you will refuse to write well elsewhere, therefore dooming yourself to a life to torment, bad grades, and excess tutoring. Not to mention that people enjoy reading fanfiction, just like they enjoy reading novels. Novels are spell checked/edited for grammar to the extreme, and not left in this pitiful condition. Maybe there's a connection... If you want people who are not morons/7 years old to be able to enjoy themselves and actually read your work, you will use correct spelling and grammar so as not to rape their eyes out.
