Constructive Criticism

I've taken three points to a ZexiDemy post that are a bit...well, none too accurate and I'd like to set the record straight here.

NOT a crack pairing?! )

demyx, concrit, zexion, crack

It's annoying when people just HAVE to say that pairings like that aren't crack. Really, there is NOTHING wrong with supporting crack pairings! I LOVE a lot of lesser pairs, and I'm not afraid to admit that they're, at least most of them, uncanon or shadowed by more 'prominant' pairs.

But yeah, WORD to this rant!

*needs a Demyx icon badly* Cute and fluffy little PUPPY DOG! No BAD FANBRAT.

...Seriously just what the Hell is wrong with crack pairings? As long as the characters are IC, it's well written and has a plausible storyline then I'll read it.

That icon makes Satan LOL. I couldn't stop laughing at the memory of playing the game with my sister watching. GET UP ON THE HYDRAS BACK GET UP ON THE HYDRAS BACK. Stfu, I will rip your face off and feed it to my Demyx dog.

I'm always wary of calling something a crack pairing just because the characters didn't share screen time, especially in the case of the Organization where we know that the characters in question were in it together, which would likely point to some degree of interaction.

I'm not saying Zexion/Demyx isn't a crack pairing, just that "They were never on screen together" doesn't necessarily make it so. Mostly because they very likely would have at least met, at some point.

But then, I do tend to find that everyone's definition of a crack pairing differs. Some people use it to mean rare or slightly weird pairings, and some use it to mean the kind of pairings that you have to be on crack to even come up with.
And there's nothing wrong with some good fanfiction crack, whatever its strength. Any pairing can work if handled properly, that's what makes crack so awesome.

As for the rant... Anyone who thinks Demyx is a cute fluffy puppy dog needs beating about the head with a sitar.

Well yeah, they obviously would have known each other since they were in the same group.

And yes, good crack is awesome when not reduced to mundane fluff and bad characterization. They never met, but just picture it: Good, well written MALEFICENT/SEPHIROTH. Two stoic, crazy, popular villains ready to raise hell, baby!

Thank you, I agree. Demyx may be the most lighthearted of the group, but come on, "cute fluffy puppy" is just an outright insult.

O_O Do you how scary and strangely hot that pairing sounds? Both are into mind fucking their enemies and might just do so to each other a little bit... .__.; Wow.

80% of what I ship in all fandoms is a so-called "crack pairing."

I think it boils down mostly to what your definition of a crack pairing is. (I've met some people who say that anything that isn't canon is crack, others who say that anything that involves characters who've never met is crack, etc.)

Frankly, my test of it is imagining how my buddies would react if I talked about it. If they nod and agree and go on with life, it's probably "canon" (the main exception being Akio/KH1!Ansem crossover-cest); if they give me weird looks, it's most likely "crack". Any pairing I think of usually makes perfect sense to me, so the terms are irrelevant irrelevent unimportant.
