On the topic of Zexion...

CONTENT CHANGED DUE TO THE LACK OF SLEEP I HAD YESTERDAY WHICH CAUSED ME TO RANT ENTIRELY ABOUT ZEXION'S SHOES
I fail. I know. And I APOLOGIZE FOR THE INCONVENIENCE.

Take another good look at Zexion in this pic1) Zexion clearly appears younger than most of the other Organization members in the original Chain of Memories ( Read more... )

Well, I don't know that you call 100% tell a character's age by their shoes... is there anything that canonically states his age as a teenager?

Do Nobodies age?

I think someone showed that Nobodies do age. In CoM, it's seen pretty clearly how short both Sora and Namine are. By the time we're in KH2, Namine has grown. It's not unrealistic to say that aging might differ depending on the Nobody, though; there's a lot of properties about them we just don't know about.

They have Somebodies, and are constantly shown to be special Nobodies. It could be a thing unique to those two, to age.

Or maybe not. We have no idea, truly, other than it appears at least that Namine aged. :D

Hence the use of "could be" instead of "is".

My point is that their hearts are still alive somewhere, and that could change things. If the heart is still alive in a somebody - someone who is growing up still - it stands to reason that the Nobody could too. It's just a theory.

But honestly, if they do age - we're talking taking up to ELEVEN or TWELVE years off of some Nobodies. Xigbar, Xaldin, Lexaeus, Vexen and Zexion all have to have at least 11 years of age as Nobodies on them. So if you call Zexion, say, 20, at the time of KHCOM, you're saying Ienzo was NINE when he became a Nobody. Zexion is 19? Ienzo was eight. Zexion is 18? Ienzo was seven. Zexion is 17? Ienzo was six. Zexion is 16? Ienzo was five-- AND THIS IS GETTING RIDICULOUS! XD

That's absurd, to me, hence the theory that they don't age.

Yeah, but I don't say that. XD I say that Zexion is older than he looks. Some people just age that way. Vexen can pass for early 30's, Zexion late 20's, Lexaeus maybe in his 30's, etc. As far as Xemnas/Xehanort goes... he's just one big mystery total. It's not unbelievable to think that Zexion could pass off for 27 by looking at him. Is it unusual? Yeah, but a lot of people just age that way. Some people look older than they really are, some people look younger than they really are. I can imagine that Zexion/Ienzo probably just aged that way; being short and skinny and using a book as a weapon makes it understandable as to why he connects well with a big guy like Lexaeus (never mind the fact that they obviously also get along due to them both being smart; Lex is huge, man! I'd wanna rely on that ( ... )

Yeah. See, I generally put Zexion in the 21-26 range and say they don't age, because, well... it seems the most logical to me. My beef is mostly with people who insist he's eighteen or something as a Nobody, and insist he's been aging all along as well. Sorry if it sounded like I was taking it out on you! :)

Personally, I think I'd be kind of freaked out to be made immortal as a Nobody. Sure, you live forever, but I can imagine their ticking-time-bomb thinking about the whole subject. Sure, they essentially have the rest of their [not?] existence to figure out how to get their hearts back, but what if they spontaneously aged upon getting their hearts back?

No problem! I hate stereotypes, too. XD I think Zexion is about 27, maybe 26. I seriously don't think he's any younger than 19. Even then, I doubt it.

Being a Nobody in general just plain sucks, yo. D:

I think it's another one of these age-phobias in fandom. Ooh, like he suddenly has less sex appeal because he's over 20? Gimme a break XD This may be a fandom where anyone age 35 is practically an old geezer, but this obsession with making every young-looking character in their mid teens is ridiculous. It's the same with Axel, and Demyx, and whatnot - for some reason, people seem to enjoy putting them exclusively in the Under 21 section.

I can understand a bit of reluctance to get your heart back though, maybe. Like having to deal with the guilt of every shameless thing you've done as a Nobody, when you have a heart to feel with. But overall - yeah, these guys are DESPERATE. Not afraid to inconvenience, people, worlds, and everything, just to save themselves.

Zexion is still my favourite character to write, to this day. Hmm <3

Oh man. I don't get this fandom, I don't. XD Of course, I think men like Xaldin and Lexaeus are frickin' attractive as hell. (...And Saix~ but he looks like he's in his late twenties as well, rather than early thirties.)

Axel and Demyx look like they're in their twenties. Leon is, what, 25 in KH2? He could probably pass for a teen if he tried, but he's not -- and looks like he's about the same age as Axel and Demyx, who are probably early twenties, late teens at best. MEH.

There are people who put Axel in the teens? Why? I mean, I don't really think about the Nobody's ages, like, at all, but I can tell you that there is no way in hell that Axel is younger than I am, and I'm twenty.

Fanbrat is not strong enough a word.

Yeah, that's really what it seems like to me. I mean, smart as he is, I find it hard to believe that Ienzo, bright as he was, could have been pre-pubescent and keeping up with a group of older teenagers or adults.

Reply

fanfare April 25 2007, 23:34:12 UTC
Exactly! :)

I babysit a nine year old girl regularly. As bright as she is, I would NOT EVER stick her in a lab, or even think of her conceiving the notion of doing dangerous experiments. Yes, it takes temperament, and there are always psychologically unbalanced children, but I move no on Ienzo's case. Whether you want to call him a prodigy or not, it seems FARRRRR to unreasonable, unethical, and nonsensical.

Between Chain of Memories and KH2, there's evidence that Namine aged (and holy cow did she age. Looks like she gained a good six inches), so I'm presuming it's normal with the human-shaped Nobodies.

There is evidence that Namine aged. However, Namine and Roxas are special cases. It could be that, because their hearts were actually still up and running, being able to age fell in with the deal of having no memories/unique powers, etc.

But I'm actually agreeing with others that "normal" Nobodies don't age. Obviously, we can't be 100% certain unless we had a model comparison for, say, Axel or Demyx, but at least if you look at Xehanort and then Xemnas, I think you'd be reeeeally hard-pressed to say there's a ten-year difference between the two. I wouldn't buy it, anyway. And yeah, I always placed Zexion at no younger than 19 or 20. I don't think he'd be signed on for uber-top-secret-dangerous experiments if he really was a younger teenager.

But yeah, if authors are writing him as that young and engaging in sexxors with Even/Xehanort/Ansem/Cid/Whoever, there's something rather off there. D:
