On Nobodies and emotions

I know what you're thinking...uh oh, it's one of those rants again! Actually, not so, it's more discussion/theory than actual rant. So feel free to throw around your own ideas, too. :3

Ramble under here! )

speculation, canon, organization

Axel completely annihilates any shred of canon connected to Nobodies as a whole, IMHO. Actually, Final Mix+ and the novels (which Nomura himself supervises the writing) pretty much throw all established canon out the window. Blame it on our lord-almighty beloved director changing his mind every other week. =/

I personally believe in the theory that it's not actually their hearts that the Nobodies are missing, but something akin to it so that's what they call it (as stated in the novels). It explains some of the loopholes at least.

It kind of... throws the point of collecting hearts out of the window then, if that's the case.

Oh, I know. 8D It's wonderfully contradicting, much like everything else in the game.

Wasn't that whole thing about how they can't really feel emotions any longer or some such? I've forgotten how that was actually translated.

It's kind of weird, but there's several different interpretations of it. I just go along with the one that makes the least sense.

Ahhhh, okay. I did wonder.

As far as that goes, for both Final Mix and the novels, we don't have official translations yet, only fan translations. Until we have something that Disney/Square gives us as what they intend for an American audience to see (if anything), I don't see how looking at a fan's best efforts at those should suddenly override what we do have as canon. Then again, I'm not at all inclined to call the manga and novels "canon" either way: they're derivatives; a different interpretation on an already-established story. And as fun and new as they are, they've got a few bizarre things in there that, really, make no sense in the KH verse. It's easier to say "these things were put in here for fun" then to try and actually connect them into actual canon.

And I'll fully agree that Nomura's story has its share of plotholes, especially around the Nobodies. I think he thought it was an OMG COOL IDEA but didn't quite keep up with it the entire way through the game because his attention was split across so many other avenues. :P

Axel is definitely an interesting case. From his lines in that scene in Final Mix it seems that he'd been trying to convince himself that he DID have a heart, as he says to Roxas, "Do you think we really don't have hearts?"

I wonder if there's more on this in Another Report. I should really read that; it's been sitting on my bookshelf for over a week now.

Personally, I have the same amount of regard for the Kingdom Hearts novels that I have for the Star Wars novels: None whatsoever.

I think he only supervised the new scenes that the author was going to add it to make sure he didn't ruin or change much. ...Needless to say, that didn't seem to work. XD

Not at all. XD "Continuity" is a word missing from Nomura's vocabulary, to say the least.
