I'd been exchanging emails with a friend, and at one point gave him a list of KH characters I'd been converting to the Dungeons and Dragons character classes and sorta roughing stats for.
He (not a KH fan, mind you, and we've agreed mutually to ignore each other's ravings on certain topics, my KH rants among them) gave me this reply.
>I just got a book called the magic item compendium, (guess what's in it) and some of the items could be used to replicate Larxenes abillities and probably some of the others although I've only just looked. Why would the all need to be epic? Especialy since Sora was able to defeat them and according to just about everyone Sora's a pushover and an idiot! I didn't know Sora used multiple weapons (or anything other than modified versions of the keyblade for that matter). Riku as an Ex-blackguard I can see (they actualy have that listed with the class in the newer DM's Guide I think, not that it matters)...
Let me take out the major point and present it to you again:
according to just about everyone Sora's a pushover and an idiot!
I'm not ranting about my friend here, because he has a rather huge lack of interest in KH in general. His ignorance about KH is not the problem. The problem is clearly the "just about everyone" he references-- KH fans who don't even know their own hero correctly when they talk to people like him!
So I'm going to establish a few things:
- Sora does not know the Heartless exist until KH1. Essentially, he knows nothing of the darkness and evil people's hearts are capable of. HOWEVER, he disproves "Ansem"'s comment of "They who know nothing can understand nothing" by learning to fight the Heartless with the strength of the light in his own heart.
- Sora's weapons training amounts to waving a wooden toy sword and getting his butt kicked by child!Selphie with a jump rope. This is not to say that Selphie does not deserve to kick some butt. This is to say that a kid whose combat capacity amounts to next to nil, should not be able to do the sorts of things Sora does when given a mystical weapon of holiness and whatever. You know, the whole 'saving not only the world, but other worlds and the universe as well' bit. In KH2, he TEACHES HIMSELF to carry and wield MULTIPLE KEYBLADES.
- Sora is comatose (or asleep, depending on your interpretation) for a YEAR, during which he grows a good 6 to 8 inches, yet he does not lose motor control and can still maul Heartless with the Keyblade, dodge Nobodies, and hop in happy circles with his friends without falling down. Could YOU do so well after being in a coma for SIX MONTHS in the middle of puberty?
- Sora does not know of the existance of Nobodies or Organization XIII until KH2. Technically, he hears of the existance of the Organization in CoM, but A) He does not learn of the Nobodies at this time (Ex: saying "What are you people?" when Axel kills Vexen), and B) Namine brainwashes him twice (once to insert herself in his memories, once to correct his memories), the latter time removing all memory of the events of CoM.
- Once informed that the Nobodies are evil, he immediately takes the logical courses of action and a) sets about fighting the Nobodies and stalling whatever their evil plans are, and b) LEARNING WHAT THE NOBODIES' EVIL PLANS ARE. He does not blindly KILL KILL KILL the way he did in CoM.
CONCLUSION: Sora is not only not an idiot, he is much more intelligent, not to mention physically coordinated, than most people give him credit for.
SORA =/= IDIOT
EDIT: Sorry if I don't make sense. I think I just needed to get this out of my system.
