Well homecoming is over. After a long, arduous week of building, pomping, running, eventing, and all sorts of maddening activities, I came out of it happy, proud, but tired. Highlights:
1. First place in Mock Rock
2. First place in Wreck
3. First place in Paparazzi Blitz (which also got me a $50 gift certificate to STA travel)
4. 2nd place in Ugly Man on Campus (I was our ugly man)
5. Staying up for 39 hours working on shit
6. Having a grand ol' time
We got 4th overall, which isn't really anything to thumb your nose at. Although we got DQed from the Contraption, we still had a really badass car, which always makes people turn their heads. We didn't do as much in the way of events as we should have, which really cost us 3rd place, but what we did do we kicked ass at. Getting first place in two of the biggest events is abso-freaking-lutely amazing. People will remember our planes in a dogfight for years to come. Overall, I'd say we showed ourselves and Georgia Tech that, despite hardships, we're still the freaking badass fraternity we've always been.
The alumni reception at the house seemed to go very well. Saw a bunch of old friends (Mike Enos!), and met some other alumni. It was a lot of fun. Plus food. Hooraaaay food! We also got a few donations, which is always good.
As for football, this game against Miami was crucial for the ACC Championships. We went into it 3-1 in ACC play, and Miami was 2-1 in ACC play. We were ranked #1 and #2, respectively, in the ACC Coastal division. The teams we have left to play are NC State, Duke, and UNC. The teams they have left to play are Virginia Tech, Maryland, Virginia, and Boston College. The winner would probably go on to the ACC Championships in December. As a result, Tech was more lively than most homecoming games because we knew that this was our lynchpin game. However, the game started off badly. On the first play of the game Miami's defense scored. During the entire first half Tech looked like it did a week ago in Death Valley. Reggie was 3 for 16, and we barely held on, tying it up at the half. However, something clicked in that locker room. During the second half we were a very, very different team. Reggie passed 8 for 11, and we put 17 points on the board, along with forcing two fumbles. The stadium was rowdy, the crowd was intense, and the noise was deafening. It was seriously the 2nd loudest I've seen Bobby Dodd Stadium (second only to the noise during the Maryland game a few weeks ago when they were 1st and goal at the end of the 4th quarter seeking to tie or win the game), and I've never seen a crowd pour their heart and soul into a game like we did. Tech pulled through in the end with a 30-23 victory. Goodbye, Miami. We need to win one of our next three games against the likes of NC State, Duke, and UNC, three of the worst teams in the ACC, and two of which are in the bottom 10 in the NCAA I-A Division. If we win just one of those games, we'll be in Jacksonville on December 2nd, facing either Clemson or Boston College (probably the former). As such, I already got my ticket for the Championship game. And, as a side note, both Ian Maisel and Mark Schlabach predict us going to the Orange Bowl. WOO! Also, the ACC has 5 top-25 teams. Fantastic.
Now there are just two games left in the regular season I'm looking forward to. Nov. 18th will see the epic, legendary showdown between #1 Ohio State and arch-rival #2 Michigan. The winner will proceed to the BCS Championships. This is the type of matchup that will be remembered through the ages. Incredible defense against incredible defense. Heisman candidates on both offenses. The biggest rivalry in the nation. Ladies and gentlemen, November 18th, 2006, will be a day to remember. I'm counting down the days. And finally is the Nov. 25th match of the Georgia schools; Georgia Tech @ Georgia. This is our year. I'll be there sporting my white and gold.
What else?
Still looking for an internship.
Tiffany and I have now been together four months, and things are going well. WOO!
The Prestige was awesome, yet quite disturbing.
I found out yesterday that Bill Moore, for whom the Student Success Center (where I am now), the tennis courts, and many other buildings on campus are named, is a Delta Sig. The bad part? He left in his will a whole shitload of money for our chapter. That was removed when we got kicked off campus in '98. Not long after he died. Had he been around when we got rechartered, there's no doubt in my mind that he'd put us back in his will. Alas... And we could use that money, too. Proud to be a Delta Sig.
I almost got raped by a drunk chick at the game Saturday. Then she promptly proceeded to make out with another girl right next to her. Weird.
I'm going to be running for Sergeant at Arms (aka risk manager) for Delta Sig on Wednesday. I hope I get it. Also, Board of Review is Wednesday, when we judge the pledgie pledges and give them the thumbs up or the thumbs down. Initiation is Friday. Can we get a 100% retention rate? That'd be awesome.
I found out I can graduate on time, even if I intern next semester. I'd get the rest of my humanities, CS, and cluster electives out of the way in Oxford. After that, I'd have 28 credits left to graduate. Now I just need to decide if I want to stay for an extra football season or not. Hrm...
Apparently I was in high demand for CWT's semiformal (two girls wanted to ask me), but they didn't because I'm taken. After they both found dates, one of them told me about the situation. I had to explain to them that Tiffany does not get jealous, and being taken does not preclude me from having friends. Man, and I would've liked to go, too. Oh well.
Delta Sig got their sanctions from Nationals. The verdict: dry house until March 31st, when we can re-apply for the alcohol waiver. We've always had the waiver since I've been here. Overall, let's see what this means.
1. Dry social events until March 31st.
2. Dry house until March 31st.
3. Ridiculously short punishment. Most probations last a year or more. I attribute this to our badass-itude.
4. The chances of Shipwreck 2007 are great. And it will be an even bigger blowout than usual because of the nature of the situation.
Not too shabby.
I'm excited for winter break!
Need I say anything else? If I think of anything, it will be done.
