Challenge: [151] Surreal
Title: Evolutionary Throwback
Word Count: 398
Spoilers: None
Notes: Moogles again. Everyone loves the moogles I think. But easy to write after not giving anything to this community in a long while.

From looking at them, one might think moogles are weak beings. They never evolved to grow fingers or toes, their eyesight can be best described as "a bat seeing in daylight", and the true function of the pompom has yet to be determined. Why, even their wings are odd and not capable of allowing moogles to fly for long distances.

Yet somehow, despite it all, moogles are found on every world. There are many theories on how the moogle, classified Mooggilius Exceptionalus, has managed to spread so far with no trace of a home world established. A prominent theory, created in conjunction after the discovery of Gummi technology (and written by a scientist that had his nose in books too often), was that moogles were once a space-faring race that had advanced so far and so fast they couldn't sustain their empire. It collapsed and left the moogles to survive on their own, a small pocket on each planet. Another theory, not as prominent since the scientist who came up with it had a taste for liquor and late nights, was that moogles were made from a highly evolved plant-like matter. The pompom (circled with red marker and a stickman next to it) is the remaining flora-like proof of the humble beginnings. There was even a theory about how moogles could have been genetically-created warriors that would overtake worlds using their powers of "cute". This theory was discarded as it lacked a solid scientific base.

In a survey given to the moogles that lived in the core worlds of Radiant Garden, Twilight Town and Disney Castle was met with disaster. Not that the moogles couldn't understand the language the survey was written in - they knew languages! - but because they couldn't hold pencils with their nubby hands.

Despite the numerous theories, investigations and inquiries into the origins about moogles, there are certainties with the diminutive species. They have a keen intellect that allows them to process mathematics faster than most, tally up munny and divide the sums into quarter period earnings, and have the strength to carry mailbags twenty times their weight from one destination to the next.

An evolutionary throwback perhaps, or something more? This strength that betrays their small stature links back into the genetic soldier theory, yet until further research is done, one thing remains clear.

Moogles will still take first place in the Galactic Arm-Wrestling matches.
