Random Phone Call

Aug 11, 2009 16:35

I collect random phone calls.

This last one came on my cell. The guy talking was obviously older, and he kept repeating everything that I said in a teasing manner, as if he expected me to figure out who he was.
"Hello?"
"Hello?"
"Who's this?"
"Who's this?.... I don't know. I don't know my name anymore." But he said this like I should figure it out, not like he was mental or something.
"Okay...?"
"Okay..."
"Well.. I'm going to hang up now."
"Well, don't do that. It's your granddad."
"I don't think so. I don't have any living grandparents. I think you have the wrong number."
"Oh. Well, that must be true. I thought I was talking to my granddaughter."

At least I didn't have to convince this guy that he wasn't my grandfather the way I had to convince some guy that I wasn't his daughter a few years ago (one of the strangest phone calls of my life).
