Jeff + Petard = Hoist.

This week-end involved a lot of cleaning up of loose renovation ends; at least as far as the kitchen and some downstairs bathroom go. I wired in the thermostat for the heated floor in the downstairs basement and installed the toilet, shower head, and faucet. The downstairs bath is basically done except for the shower walls and a couple towel bars.

Upstairs I fished in the last bit of cabinet lighting, and wired in the last circuit for the peninsula plug. The easy part was next... just installing the plugs and plates along the counter and I could dust off my hands with a feeling of accomplishment.

Except that only 3 of the 4 plugs fit into place, and only 1 of three plug-plates fit. And this will come down to "all Jeff's fault".

We wanted a bit of detail in the back-splash so we used travertine tiles cut as diamonds with a strip of 2-high onyx cubes that have an upper and lower "rib". The contractor suggested putting the strip 4 diamonds up from the counter, but to me it seemed too close to the bottom of the cabinet and sort've got lost depending on the angle you viewed it from. I suggested 3.5 diamonds (which also caused more work), and would bring the stripe just over the back of the oven and cut across the plugs. The concept being that the eye also likes when patterns appear to travel behind things and re-appear on the other side.

Unfortunately at the time I mounted the electrical boxes I measured everything from the floor. Little did I know that the floor was discovered to be about 1" off from end end of the wall to the other when the contractor went to install the cabinets. I didn't think too much of it at that point... the cabinets would be straight, and the walls were already sheeted in and inspected.

Of course, the problem does show up when my fancy onxy strip passes at through the plugs. I don't think it'll be deadly noticable, except in one place where I unfortunately mounted one box slightly higher than the other. In that case I can't even mount the plug flat because of the onyx rib.

It looks like I've got some definite work infront of me to fix this one!
