This morning my Mom dropped by (in town for a wedding) and we took her out for breakfast for her 65th birthday. We had initially planned on taking my Mom to the Hotel Fort Garry's Sunday brunch, but she said she felt guilty having us spend that much money on her, and that much like me, she would be a waste of a buffet.
Instead, we "settled" on the Fort Garry breakfast instead, which only clocks in at $18 per person and offers the services of the omelet chefs.
The food was great as always, it was nice to be with my Mom, but what might've been even more amusing was that we were seated next to
Monty Hall. At first I wasn't thinking much about the other people around, except that there was one incredibly boisterous table of women who stopped this white haired fellow wearing a dark suit and talked to him for a little bit. Once he made his way back to the table the waitress asked "How are you today, Mr. Hall?" and then a little later someone else walked by and said "Good morning, Monty." That pretty much confirmed my hunch.
Not to mention I thought I had heard that he might be in town (and it turns out it is for a
highschool celebrating it's 100th year). It's like a celebrity breakfast, but low key.
It was interesting to over-hear Monty talking about
Israel Asper, though.
