Haunting Dreams I

Standing still, near an enormous window stood a small lady, who now is a not so little girl, with mesmerizing eyes and raven hair arranged in two ponytails. She was wearing a delicate pearl-white summer dress that fitted her perfectly and had a light-pink lace which was the only colored thing to adorn the smooth fabric.

-          Mama, is it true what papa told me? - asked her, with her usual soft and light voice

-          What is it that your dad has told you, sweetheart? - replied the mistress of the house, a really beautiful women with porcelain skin, big jade eyes and long wavy strands, to her second and last child

-          He said we’d soon be moving yet to another country. - she sighed - Can’t we just stay? I made great friends with Jane and her cousin too.

-          Come here, baby. Come. - stated the fine lady- Sit here. - and the kid obliged (happily of course) - I know and I really am glad. But, honey, this is for the best. I assure you, we wouldn’t do this if it could be avoided.

The lass closed her eyes while her mother soothed her. “I guess” - she thought - “that this is a chance to make new friends.” And an angels smile spread on her face.

He saw her, again, curve her delicate lips just like she did so many years ago, but now cradled in his arms. The boy had been stroking the strands of her hair, humming a soft tone, a peaceful one. A melody he had learnt by heart throughout all their years in London.

-          Noriko… - he said gently, and she stirred - Wake up, honey.

-          Uhhuhmmm. - she moved to her side, snuggling to avoid the sun

-          Sis, I adore you, but we have to go. - he insisted

Thing was that she was having that dream again, he could tell. And he could tell it would lead to no good, for she would be down the whole day if she got to the part where…

-          Ok, ok… Don’t even think about tickling me. I do know that we have to present our papers. - she began, opening one eye - But, ehm… Would you please be the one to do the talking? I don’t think I’m prepared.

-          Don’t worry. Just get ready to go out. I’ll be waiting at the main hall.

He hugged his little treasure and retired. She was left alone on a bench in the garden.
