Broken Eyes I

-          Mommy, have you seen my blue ribbon?

-          No dear, I believe I haven’t. - our mother replied and I could tell my little treasure was feeling her eyes watering

-          We can’t leave yet, please. I need my blue ribbon. I won’t take long.

Yes, she started searching all over the mansion.

We were living in Paris, and had an enormous luxury mansion as home. Marble cold floor and wide columns, and yes, a main long stair that led to the second floor which had at least fifty rooms, and yes again, little Noriko was about to check each one in search of her blue ribbon.

However, time was not something we had at the moment, for a car was already outside, and the driver was waiting to take us to the airport where we’d catch our flight to London.

-          I’ll go get her. - I said and went in the same direction my ebony little sis had gone

Soon after, I found her, crying her heart out. I approached, and took her hand; I always did when she was like this.

-          I can’t find it. - she said between sobs, clutching to my chest

-          Silly, it’s ok, we’ll buy a new one in London. Ok? - came my reply, but I didn’t expect her answer

-          No! I want this one. - and started crying harder

-          Shh, shh, calm down Kit Fon (her Chinese name), why can’t I buy you another?

-          Because.

-          Because?

-          Because it’s the one Di Ye (father) gave me for my last birthday. He said it looked good on me. Please? - and she put her violet orbs full of hope in that look I could not resist

-          Ok. - so I agreed

Minutes passed. One, two, three… thirty seven rooms we had looked on and did not get anything. But we didn’t give up. We were about to open the forty second door when we heard a gunshot. We ran desperately downstairs and saw armed strangers surrounding our mother.

-          Please. - I thought I said, horrified by the sight

However, it looked like I didn’t voice that final plea, because if I had, may be things would have been different and my eyes would have remained innocent. I saw the silvery metal rise and even though I wanted to stop the current flow of events, I never did, I closed my eyes and grabbed Kit Fon’s hand trying to get her away from what was about to happen.

-          Kuai qu. Ni men. - said our mother, while summoning some Linels.
Clinch. And that was it.
