The obvious answer? Find someone else who has the Lore that is willing to teach it to you.

But how did they get it?

A myrid of ways. Exposure to the source topic, whether through hostile interactions, interogations, studying, brainwashed teachings, etc. Or it could have been through the "coterie" method of "i'll teach you X". There's dozen's of ways to gain knowledge about a topic, and with the OWBN Kindred being so much more connected technology-wise than our Cannon counter-parts, the flow of data increases by magnitudes. Heck, in "modern" OWBN, who needs the Nosferatu information network? It can be duplicated fairly easily by any clan. That's why people say that "no list is secure". Because no listserve IS secure. There's data flowing out from every list in the org. Heck, I know people who pick up clan lores & other such things just by going to gatherings and listening to what people are saying. Eventually, people are going to start understanding what's going on. For examples, please see the wide-spread knowledge on Tremere Thaum and what people know about various rituals, and the trust/faith that's put into that clan. They are the ( ... )

You're not getting around the main issue of my topic with any of those methods. In order for someone to teach you, they would have had to have direct interaction with the group in question (such as the sabbat or lupines) and been taught directly by them.

I understand that once the dike cracks, it's doomed to break and the water will flow freely, but that first crack has to happen. Your method simply takes advantage of the flood, but doesn't address what caused the dike to break.

"In order for someone to teach you, they would have had to have direct interaction with the group in question (such as the sabbat or lupines) and been taught directly by them."

You're looking for other genre lores then?

"Exposure to the source topic, whether through hostile interactions, interogations, studying, brainwashed teachings, etc." was my response.

You are correct though. Direct interaction, whether through back-story or existing story-arc would be needed. However, you are wrong that it requires a willfull mentorship of that topic by the individual.

I'm talking specifically about other genre lores, and trying to figure out what processes could be taken for people to justify learning them.

Hostile interactions and studying are good for lower levels of lores, but not for the higher levels. It's my belief that it requires direct mentorship over a long period of time.

Even if, using one of your examples, you have a Sabbat and you interrogate him over time to learn everything he knows, that's direct mentorship from someone in the Sabbat. It's one thing to interrogate a captured Sabbat on what he knows about the Sabbat in the area and their strength, then executing him, but to go further could easily be considered consorting with the Sabbat.
