San Francisco's Gay Pride

Jun 27, 2010 10:17

This weekend, San Francisco celebrated Gay Pride. This weekend, there's a one-acre pink triangle up on Twin Peaks; last night it came complete with floodlights, rotating searchlights, and pink balloons.

Made up of pink tarpaulins, it was installed early Saturday morning, and will be struck on Sunday evening.

A mean-spirited comment on the Examiner website about the one-acre, two-day project, characterizing it as "destructive to the eco-system" (which it isn't) and grumbling about "the political clout of the gay community"(which it has) made me realize how things have changed. Yes, the gay community has political clout. Good.

I'm not gay, but yes, I'm proud.
