Thank you for agreeing to give your opinions and thoughts.

This survey/interview is for a class research project about online relationships. Some information may be deemed personal but should not cause emotional damage. The survey should take no more than 30 minutes. Please be as brief or as descriptive as you like. If you are uncomfortable answering any question, please skip and continue. Please know that your answers will be held in the strictest of confidence. If they are used as quoted material in the research, you will not be identified with your answer.

Thank you for your time. I appreciate your help immensely. If you have any questions, or would like to see the final result, please contact me via email at kirstenwshields@yahoo.com.

Please think of one chat board you frequent - it can be any. Chat boards may include personal interest groups, blog "friends lists", social networking groups or any online community where participants interact easily and often.

1.What kind of board did you chose (personal interest, blog friend list, social networking, etc)? How long have you been active on it?

2.When new to a (any) chat board, what emotion do you feel?

3. a. how do you often feel your voice is "heard" as a new member of a board?
b. as a member who has been active 6+ months?
c. as a member who is "seasoned" and has been active for a year or longer?

4. Do you often find there is a leader in the group? If yes, please continue this question. If no, please continue to question 5.
a. is the leader "assigned" or someone who is a natural group leader?
b. do you feel as if most of the board participants know the "leader"?
c. do you feel as if the leader knows many of the group members and has an equal relationship with them? Does the relationship seem one-sided or two-sided?

5.Have you ever had a single-sided relationship with someone online? This may or may not include "stalking," same- or different-sex friendships or even persons you dislike. It should/could include ideas such as: seeking out posts from this person, researching information about this person that they might not have discussed (or buried in other information), etc.
a. if yes, how many of these relationships have you had?
b. how long did you "know" the person online before you started seeking information?
c. did the relationship ever move beyond your own interest in that person
d. what are some reasons you were involved in these relationships?

6.Do you feel that other group participants are more likely to look for information about the leader or other participants?
