YOU CAN QUOTE ME ON THAT: Appearing in the Paper; Huerta a Lover, Not a Fighter; Rampage Sentenced

Jan 09, 2009 11:33

I was in the paper yesterday and no, it wasn't for all the wrong reasons.

Next: Winter winds, chance of snow

Right in the second paragraph. I completely forgot I was asked for a quote by the author of the article until somebody asked me about it last night.

Since somebody will invariably ask - no, I'm not a weather nerd. At all. As a matter of fact, I find that the only thing more mundane than discussing the weather for more than five minutes at a time is writing about it. I have some weather nerd friends who read this, so I don't want them to take offense. It's just one of those things that bores me, much like MMA bores them.

Speaking of MMA:

* Roger Huerta leaving fighting to be an actor/model. His line of reasoning is that Liddell and Couture didn't hit their prime until they were in their 30s, but casting directors look for younger folks. In other words, better to do it now so he can return to the game later. NOTE TO ROGER: Liddell and Couture hit their prime in their 30s because that's how old they were when the sport came up in the United States as we know it. And I thought Brandon Vera was the only one contracted UFC fighter interested in posing and pretending!

* Quinton Jackson Pleads Guilty, gets community service for his vehicular rampage brought about by a psychological frenzy due to lack of food and water. I know it sounds crazy, but it's not nearly as crazy as when he went on a fast in the early 90s while preparing for his fight with Wanderlei de Silva because he read on the internet that starving yourself gets demons - literal demons - out of your body. As for his Community Service? Well..."Quinton has chosen to share his knowledge of how good nutrition, exercise, and sufficient sleep leads to success. He will be speaking to groups of young people in the hope that his unfortunate incident can be turned into something positive for others."
What's sad is that I'd like to make fun of the fact that he's essentially telling kids that they should get into the habits of a full night sleep and eating at an early age. But honestly, both aspects are a much bigger problem for people - especially folks our age it seems - than most would like to admit.

Alright, back to work. And no, I still haven't picked up my comics for the week. And yes, I'm still feeling that small tinge of sickness in the back of my throat. And yes, it's been a crazy and chaotic week at work.

More later...
