Mousing Around
Yesterday morning, when I went into the kitchen to turn the hot water pot on for coffee, I was startled by a mouse. The mouse was startled by me as well and scampered away, but I could hear it running around somewhere in the area. I got the humane mousetrap that sits on the floor of the kitchen and put fresh crackers into it, then put it on the kitchen counter in the area where the mouse had been frequenting.
Late last night, I heard clanking noises from the trap. The mouse had moved in. I knew it would have enough to eat, and it was after dark, so I did not want to deal with clearing the trap in the railroad yard at night, so I left it until this morning.
Around sunrise, I took the trap over to the rail yard and opened it. Just after I took this photo, the terrified little mouse realized the door was open, jumped out of the box (leaving behind the cracker it had been eating), and fled.
The mouse will need to take its chances with the various cats that roam the neighborhood and the small raptors that patrol the area.
