On the final day I was on the road (the morning after arriving at Reno), my electric razor went dead while I was in the shower shaving. Now this has happened a few times before when I didn't notice the low battery warning on the previous day, and I was about to go home anyway, so I didn't worry about it. After I got home, I put the battery on to charge. I have two identical electric razors, one of which I had left at home. When I'm at home, I normally alternate between the two of them.
Yesterday, the second razor's low-battery warning light came on, so I put it on to charge and checked the first one (the one that had traveled with me), and discovered that despite having gone through a full charge cycle, it wouldn't run. I put it through the charge cycle again just to be sure, and it still won't run.
This probably means that the battery has worn out, and as far as I know, you can't replace the battery in this model. It has a fixed lifespan, and after that, it's shot. This is unfortunate and IMO wasteful, particularly because replacement blades are not always part-compatible with new razors, even from the same manufacturer, in this case Norelco.
I found a new razor (open box) online and ordered it, but it's clear that there aren't many of that model still out there. So in a few years, I'll have to switch to a new model. I don't like doing that; once I get used to something, I usually prefer to keep using it if I can.
It's lucky that the old razor conked out at the end of the trip. I could have gotten by with a blade razor (I carry one as a backup), but I don't like doing so because I have fairly sensitive skin and get cut easily.
