Summer Reconfiguration

May 25, 2024 21:18

We held off moving the small wood box off the porch on account of how cold it was at the start of the month, but moved it yesterday. As this weekend is the "ceremonial" start of summer (which runs more or less from Memorial Day to Labor Day), we could now use the whole front porch for relaxing and bird watching.

We have the chairs now set up so we can sit outside on pleasant evenings. We put away the snow shovel and push broom. The empty small wood box is now sitting in the distance behind the large wood box. Beyond that is a pile of pallets on which the fire logs were shipped. When we have a chance, Lisa will cut those pallets down to burnable size and we'll put them into the wood box for use when the fireplace is needed again.

Lisa has managed to get better photos of birds with her cameras than I have been able to do.

My camera phone has only a 4x zoom. Her camera has a far longer zoom.

We call these the "bird bushes." They're on the far side of the East Lot, and birds often roost here waiting for us to go away.

If we sit still enough, the birds seem to forget that we are here and start coming back to the feeder, with some birds going to the feeder while others putter around the base of the feeder eating the seed that the other birds knock out of it.
