This story takes place in the rail yard across the street from Fernley House, but has no trains in it, only a crane.
This crane and its support vehicle appeared this afternoon in the rail yard. I don't think it was related to anything happening with the railroad; it was just a convenient place to do the maneuvers I photographed here.
You can see here that the struts are extended to brace the crane, which means they did plan to raise it.
Lisa and I were both a bit concerned given how many electrical lines are in the area.
Not only did they raise the crane, they extended it slightly. You can see how many extension sections there are, so this was only a tiny extension.
They then lowered the crane until it attached to the cradle on the trailer. The trailer's only connection to the main crane, other than brake and electrical lines, is that cradle. The trailer is not connected by a tow hitch.
With the crane and its trailer connected, they raised the struts and departed. Don't follow one of these that closely. The crane hook swings freely.
Once again, it seems like you see something new every day around here.
