A few days ago, when I went to open the rear door of the Astro to load the groceries, the handle broke.
The rear handle broke in some way - probably the bit of the handle that engages with the wire inside that releases the latch - just like it did
in November 2015 on our way from Fernley to Fort Worth for SMOFCon.
Unfortunately, the Astro does not have an inside door release on the rear door. This means I can't open the door at all. From our past experience with this, we will have to try to pry in the inside panel off in order for Lisa (who has smaller hands than me) to reach in and pull the release cable to get the door open. Then she will be able to partially disassemble the door, replace the broken part, and put things back together.
This is highly annoying and inconvenient, but we can still get at the back area of the minivan through the side door. I ordered a replacement door latch yesterday, and when it arrives and there is clear enough weather to do so, we'll take a shot at yet again replacing the part.
