Battening Down the Hatches

As I mentioned, yesterday was a relatively pleasant day, and we got a lot of field clearance accomplished.

Directly in front of me is the 50 m2 of weeds that we dug from the East Lot. You can see in the right distance Lisa using the clippers to try and trim branches. Leaning against the fence are the rake, fork, and hoe we used to try and scrape leaves away from the fence. While I have no problem with mulching leaves, when they accumulate around the base of the fence, they are a fire hazard. We moved at least six wheelbarrow loads of them to the burn pile, where we will probably not get a chance to dispose of them until next spring.

I'm really glad that Steve was able to get the chimney cleaned yesterday, because a storm blew through overnight with plenty of wind and a lot of icy rain mixed with snow. Thanks to the time change, I woke up ahead of my alarm this morning, even though I had to be up earlier than usual to substitute for a co-worker who is off today and tomorrow, and the wind was howling. I was once again glad that my commute to work is just a few meters from the bedroom to the living room.

Things cleared up later in the morning, and I went outside to make sure we took no harm from the wind. As it happens, what looks like a useful tarp blew into the front yard, so I folded it up and stored it away out of the wind. Otherwise, there was nothing serious changed due to the storm. Tonight and tomorrow there is supposed to be enough snow for some of it to stick for a while. I hope that means there is a lot of snow falling in the mountains, because we need all the snow we can get up there.
