Radiation Sickness
I know I promised part two of the tale of our trip from this weekend today, but unfortunately, I received sufficient radiation exposure at the Project Shoal atomic test site yesterday that I suffered epidermal burns on all unshielded surfaces.
In other words, I got a bad sunburn.
We were out in the sun wandering around the test site, which is at about 5,000 feet above sea level, on a lovely clear day, and I hadn't considered the need for sunscreen. It would have been worse without my Jacaru hat, but my face and hands hurt quite a bit today. Fortunately, I do still have various after-sun ointments to try and keep down the pain.
In addition, the winds started kicking up, and a lot of the places we were at yesterday have nasty alkalai soil, so my eyes also hurt a lot. I still manged my Day Jobbe stuff, but optional stuff will need to wait until I feel a little better. Besides, cataloging all of those photos takes longer than writing the story around them, and I learned long ago that uncatalogued photos might as well have not been taken in the first place.
