Author signing! Wee!!!

Aug 05, 2006 21:37

okay, so i really should have written this LAST week, but ... ... i had no desire which is ironic because i wanted to tell EVERYONE that we had an author signing in Barnes & Noble and that the author, Brandon Sanderson, came to my book group friday, the day BEFORE the book signing on saturday.

He's an awesome-awesome guy, very nice and stuffs. but he came to my bookgroup and we were reading his book, Elantris (good book, kinda slow only because there's ALOT of political stuff, but it still keeps you reading and turning the pages fast). I originally chose it because his second book, Mistborn, was released this week, so i figured "Perfect! read his first book and then the second one will be out; it'll be good sells for both us and the author."

and surprise! he showed up at the bookgroup and we got to ask him allllll these questions and i was actually speechless! i didn't know what to ask him, but it was sooo nifty!

but he talked about his first book and gave us little insites into his second book, and we asked him questions on writing and how he came up with his ideas and how he knew Elantris was the book he should try to get published; things like that.

then the next day i went in and got the Mistborn book signed (i met him last year when his first book came out so i had that one signed already ;) ) and the artist of the maps came! so he signed his works in the book and i think i hung around for about... oh... ... 2 hours... heh ^-^`` it seemed like i was stalkin' the poor guys; at least that's what i realized after i left and saw the time. the reason i was sticking around was because the night before at the bookgroup i was pulled away halfway through and i was put to work. o.0 yes you heard me right; i'm in charge of this bookgroup but they wouldn't allow me to stay and host it. i was MAD. and to top it off a manager the night before had told me it would be all right for me to be over there the entire time. oi... -.- evilness.

true a few days later i found out why -turns out someone called in and said they weren't coming in and i didn't know that; but still, i was mad! we had TWO managers on duty, so it's not like they didn't have enough people to take care of calls and stuffs like that. whatever...

thus why i hung around the next day at the book signing for so long -i was asking him all those questions that i missed ^-^ heh.

But the artist dude, we got to talking and he's also writing a book and trying to get it done and he was talking about his map making and i mentioned it is hard making maps (because i made my own map for my world) and he got all excited and said i should e-mail it to him so he could see it -then later on he said "send me the first chapter of your book, i'll read it and take it to my book group and read it. i'll see how it does." ^-^ teehee, i was all excited! i think i didn't stop grinning for about an hour.

so yeah, that was the joy of last week ^-^

and now that i think about it, i don't think i announced to anyone that i got a promotion at work! i am now a head cashier and i have 'magic numbers'. I can do everything a manager can on the computer at the cash registers at least. it's nifty! i don't have to call a manager up whenever i need to do a return or anything! true i'm sad that i didn't get the Sci-fi/Fantasy, Fiction, mystery, romance and audio book section that was also up for grabs for a promotion... but head cashier has it's perks, i'm getting a lot of early shifts ^-^

so yeah; that's work.

and i think i'm going to take a break from my major book to do a side story of Ketto. the more i think about it, the more i want to write down his past and his history. I will talk about it and reveal a lot of it in book four in the book series; but i want to write it down now for some reason and i ain't going to question my gut.

and also, i'm determined to draw at least once a day and even if only turns out to be a little sketch, i want to try and develope the comic style. I want to try and learn that fusion style of American classic comics with manga; because i like how they turn out, the eyes are emotional, but the faces are more realistic yet still anime-simple and still beautiful. so i'm practicing!

and dev did a character drawing of Thrast! wee!!! i love it! true the hair is different than what i see in my head; and i usually see him a bit taller and in a button up shirt -but i LOVE her design for his clothes! it makes more sense for him to wear a tunic-type one piece, with two belts around his waist and so on. you'll need to go see it on www.deviantart.com and find me, Damgel, i put it in my Favorites. i love it ^-^ and i do like her design for his hair. he does eventually have hair that long, but later on in the books -after he kills John, Ketto talks him into cutting it... and slowly over time he reveals his face more.

Everything Thrast does has a phscycological reason behind it. every action he makes or how he might say something, it is rooted in his past and dictated by something that happened to him.

Ketto is a little more out spoken in my books; he's not AS shy, but he's still hesitant and quiet. but i need to remember that he will bristle up and fight a little more. he's still accident prone and if the worst can happle, it'll happen to him; so that'll keep the book interesting revolving around Ketto ;) heehee

hopefully i'll get Ketto and Thrast teamed up with Kree, Rawlar, Dallezz and Cloud soon. i think i need those extremes to clash soon.

all righty then, i'll shut up!
