Open source Daisy players
Two new open source players have been announced in the past two days, Olearia for the Mac and DDReader for Windows, available in Brazilian/Portuguese/English.
1. Olearia is a DAISY digital talking book player for the Macintosh
computer platform. Olearia will play DAISY version 2.02 and DAISY/
NISO 2005 digital talking book. This version 0.90b will play audio
only and full text full audio books. The final version of Olearia
will support text only DAISY books as well. Olearia supports
VoiceOver. Olearia requires MacOS X version 10.5 or better.
Olearia is free open source software and can be downloaded from http://www.cucat.org/projects/olearia

An important note: Olearia, and for that matter no other software
based player, can not play NLS books. THis is due to the NLS refusing
to approve software players to have access to their encryption.
We are working with RFB&D to be able to ply their encrypted books and
expect a solution to that soon.
2. DDReader for Windows
we are very happy to announce the 1.0 version of
DDReader (for Windows). It is a software
developed by Dorina Nowill Foundation for the
Blind from Brazil. It is available in three
languages: Portuguese, Spanish and English and is free to use and share.
It is the first free Portuguese DAISY 3.0 reader!
DDR is a Firefox add-on, so you must have Firefox to install it.

We have included many functions in this version,
and we expect to have more coming in the near
future. We also plan to have Linux and Mac versions soon.
