I bought some skirt fabric with a bottom detail that I want to make into a fullish, knee-length skirt. I figured I'd use this pattern that I already have, until I pulled it out and held it up to the fabric. Sadly, I think you're going to have to do the skirt in panels or gores to get it to work right. If you do it the way you're mentioning, the angled sides will be a LOT longer than the straight part with the grain, plus they'll be bias cut instead of being on the grain. It won't look like you expect it to.

Caution: I don't actually sew.
