OK, sewing ladies...

I bought some skirt fabric with a bottom detail that I want to make into a fullish, knee-length skirt. I figured I'd use this pattern that I already have, until I pulled it out and held it up to the fabric. The bottom of the skirt pattern is an arc, which would not work out with the horizontal detail on the bottom. To get the right effect, I need to have a flat hem and not a curved one. I figure I could just futz the cut so I basically make a parallogram(ish) shape and still get the same shape. I'm just not sure if the futz'll affect the way the way the skirt hangs. Anyone made up a skirt pattern that could help?

(I'm also really annoyed that I got 2.25 yards of fabric like the pattern said and still don't have enough yardage for the way it's designed. Stupid shrinking.)
